Event description:

This program provides local high school students with the opportunity to perform a physics “analysis” on real data taken with ALICE detector at the Large Hadron Collider in Geneva, Switzerland. With over 13,000 students from 52 countries at 200 participating institutions, this program also makes students aware of the global scale of high energy physics. At the conclusion of the analysis, students will video conference with other participating US institutions and have a video tour of a control room from a resident physicist at the LHC. Additionally, students will be able to speak with current graduate students, post docs, and faculty currently working in related fields. Participating minors will require some physics and computational background, although details specific to the program will be provided the day of the event. The full-day event will include lunch and will be of no cost to participants.
