Event description:

Last month, two arXiv preprints claimed discovery of a room-temperature superconducting compound called LK-99. This immediately sparked a replication race between research groups worldwide. Uniquely, this also grabbed global attention outside the physics community, with news outlets and social media providing daily commentary on the developing story. So, what is the deal with LK-99? In this timely meeting, we will start with an introduction to Unidentified Superconducting Object sightings by Prof. Yu He (Yale Applied Physics), followed by open discussion Q&A to assess the merits of the original claim, supporting and refuting evidence in follow-up preprints, and how this story is unfolding in the general public. Panelists include: Yu He, Eduardo da Silva Neto, and Sohrab Ismail-Beigi. All are welcome!
