Event description:

As the LIGO/Virgo/GEO/KAGRA network gears up for another joint data taking run, the world may expect new observations of familiar friends, and hopefully, new observations of interesting strangers. In this talk I will review the recent observational results, recent upgrades to the LIGO detectors, and the prospects for the next decade. To stretch the reach of the GW detectors to before the birth of the first stars, will require better quantum metrology techniques, understanding two-level systems in thin films, and machine-learning based feedback controls.
Host: Laura Newburgh (laura.newburgh@yale.edu)
Coffee and light snacks outside SPL 57 before the talk.
