We apply analytic bootstrap techniques to study correlators of local operators in the presence of an extended object or “defect”. After reviewing the general setup, we focus on N=4 SYM at strong coupling.
We bypass explicit holographic calculations in favor of an inversion formula that reconstructs defect correlators starting from a certain discontinuity. Using this method we obtain elegant closed-form expressions for an infinite family of defect correlators with their full cross-ratio dependence. The result is mostly fixed by symmetry with minimal external input, and satisfies several consistency checks.
